I only found out about Fattburger a couple of years ago, but it quickly became a favourite to listen to while working or relaxing. Excellent production values, good tunes with great harmonic structures (I'm classically-trained), smooth musicianship.......what more could one ask for? And now to read that Carl passed away in April is very sad indeed. Wherever he is now, may he know that his work gave pleasure to many.

Carl Evans Jr. has passed. I'm saddened.

Truly sad news. A rare and talented man, member of a rare and talented group. Always a smile, a good word. Optimism.

Please send my condolences to the family and the band.

My wife of were courting in the 80s. We lived in S.D. and fell in love to Carl's "One of a Kind" and Mark's bass solo on "Valentine" at the PB Cafe. We are truly saddened but I must admit it has given us this time to remember a wonderful period in our lives. Thank you Carl. Walk Good.

Carl was such a blessing, and truly deeply missed. But I'm sure he's having a great time with the Lord.

You are tops on my list of favorite bands. One thing...you gotta help me find a way to get a copy of "On a Roll." PLEASE!

This is truly sad news. This is the first time I have accessed this sight only to find that one of my favorite musicians has passed. What an enemy death is. As much a part of each of our realites as it is, it none-the-less is a thief for having robbed mankind of the full potential that we all are endowed with. For those of us who did not know him personally, Carl will unquestionably live on in all of our hearts through his wonderful music that he leaves behind and for those of you who did know him undoubtedly through your cherished memories and shared experiences. I wish solace to all his family and friends.
Another tragic loss.

I just heard the sad news about my long time friend Carl passing. Carl, Nathan East, Hollis Gentry, Skip Ragsdale,
and myself were part of the young San Diego, Ca music scene back in the late 1970's. Also Aubrey, Steve Stewart, Tony Senior, Tony Shenault (formerly of the Isaac Hayes band)and Carl was opening for the upstart group A Taste of Honey
about that time. Carl was truly a special person, he will be missed.

I learned of Carl's death, by
e-mail,soon after arriving in Sydney, Australia. The pain of the news felt like a knife going through my heart! It was the beginning of a four-week overseas trip, so I was also saddened that I was unable to attend the service and let you all know how sorry I was for your tremendous loss. As Mark and Kevin know, Carl was one of my best friends for 25 years. I met Carl and Mark, in 1983,while listening in on a Spyro Gyra concert at Humphrey's. None of us had tickets, so we stood out in the parking lot, thoroughly enjoying those great sounds. Although I had heard the Bruce Cameron and Hollis Gentry Ensemble at the Triton many times, it wasn't until that day our friendship was formed. And, from that day forward, Carl and the band's friendship and music meant so much to me. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, guys! And, to Carl, I love you and will always miss you.

My husband, Bruce, and I moved to
San Antonio, in 2004, so we don't get to see Fattburger or other San Diego jazz groups anymore. My thoughts are with all of you who loved and cared for Carl like I did.

And, to Carl's family, I'm so very sorry for your loss, as well.

Love,
Elaine Krugman

Dear Fattburger members:
I'm so sorry to hear that your good friend and long time band member Carl Evans Jr. passed away last month. I have been a fan of your music since the 90s and I was blessed enough to hear Carl perform with your group live in Riverside, CA at a public park remodeling dedication in the late 1990s. I believe it was between 1994-1997 but regardless of the specific date I will never forget how you all ministered to me during that performance. You make the world a much better place just by what you do, so my prayers will be with you all and I hope that this unexpectd change will not stop you from the journey of using your music to minister to all of us fans who love you and support you.

Thank you for caring and take care of yourselves.

I'm so sorry to hear that Carl passed away. I have most Fattburger albums and he was truly gifted. A couple of years I saw him and Fattburger live at a gig at Humphreys in San Diego in a very private atmosphere and it just was such a beautiful evening.

You will be missed Carl!

Big Carl - you will be missed. I think I went to high school with you at University High - and remember your infectous laugh and upbeat personality. Looking at your band, I also think I went to high school with Tom Aros - when I transfered to Kearny High in 1972. Carl - you will be missed big guy !

Prayers to the Evans family. Carl was a musical inspiration and a very kind person. I remember him well, not only with Fattburger, but when he sat in with our dance funk band "New Joy" in the mid and late '70's. From smooth jazz to hard funk, Carl was extraordinary. A special condolence goes to Carl’s talented brother, Mike Evans, a drummer. Mike and I played together at Morse High School's jazz band (class of '77). Love & Peace, Herb.

Please extend my sympathies to his family. I am grateful I had the opportunity to briefly connect with him and the group at a local festival a few years ago.

I have always enjoyed the music of Fattburger. The group is so dynamic and creative. I have purchased every CD once I became aware of the group.Infact my smooth jazz band Destiny, did a lot of your tunes as covers. I am shocked to hear that Carl has passed, even more upset that Hollis and Mike Brecker passed. Man, What a loss! I know there must be a hell of a jam session going on up there. Play as much as you'd like, whenever you'd like and no bills to pay! My condolenses to their familes and to the bands of these great musicians. They will be greatly and sorely missed.

God Bless,

Jerry McClam

Hi, I'm a trumpet player who sat in with you guys once or twice in MB just when you became Fattburger. I've since moved to Australia but once every few years check up on the band as I still remember speaking to Hollis, Carl and Mark and their playing.

My brother Bob Hall was a great local sax player with Pat Yandall and Will Sumner's and Hollis would come up often as a great player when we spoke. Sadly, Bob died early in 2002 - another great loss and a great guy. Yesterday I found out about the departure of both Hollis and Carl - and recently Mike Brecker, these guys can't be replaced and I'll always be thankful for their music.

I hope you guys will carry on with the wonderful vibe you have created - good luck from Australia.

Steve

2/3/1993..A date that lives forever in my life. That night,Fattburger played a gig at Sculler's club in Boston simulcast live on radio and my friend happened to record it for me because he knew I would cherish it always.I had front row tickets for the show and was in heaven that night floating on a cloud of pure joy as the sounds just carried me to another place. And I remember Carl was very playful and funny that night..tellin stories, joking around, makin us all feel like were part of the show.Just a warm hearted man doing what comes natural to him...I felt so lucky to be there that night and as I listen to the recording,my heart opens up and I feel the personal warmth of Carl and the group. A gift I will always treasure...God Bless you Carl and all you have brought to this world...May you rest in peace.
